The engineering office TROST Energy Consult in Flensburg is your partner with international reach and decades of experience, which sees itself as a pioneer in refractory construction.

Our founder and namesake is Dipl.-Ing. Matthias Trost. After several years with Kraftwerk Union in the early 1980s, Trost headed the boiler plant department at Stadtwerke Flensburg GmbH from 1984 to 2006. His responsibilities included the operation and maintenance of various steam boiler plants, partly with flue gas desulphurisation and power plant auxiliary systems, as well as power plant deployment planning. At that time, the municipal utilities were one of the first to use the technology of circulating fluidised bed combustion for energy generation. Thus, Matthias Trost also laid the foundation stone of his expertise in steam boiler and refractory construction, in addition to the process-technical peculiarities of this technology. Through the constant technological development, interest and fascination of the engineer grew more and more. He built up a second mainstay with his engineering office with a focus on refractory construction early on during his time at the municipal utilities.

As early as the early 1990s, it became clear that there was a high demand for experts for fluidized bed furnaces and refractory construction. Trost was a founding member of the Fluidized Bed Combustion Working Group of the Association of Large Power Plant Operators (VGB) and is the contact person there for refractory linings in fluidized bed combustion systems. Trost soon established his reputation. Since then Matthias Trost has been working with other engineers, project assistants and freelancers in Flensburg under the name TROST Energy Consult. 

Our headquarters is in Flensburg. So far, however, we have also been active worldwide beyond the borders of Germany and Europe.
